Chandler, Gene

Gene Chandler (b.1937) is an American soul singer, recalled for the gauche but irresistible 1962 U.S. number 1, "Duke of Earl". The Curtis Mayfield penned "Just Be True" (1964) and "Nothing Can Stop Me" (1965) were US Top 20 singles. Chandler's career was revitalized during the disco boom with his international hit "Get Down". He appeared in the movie "Don't Knock the Twist" (1962).
