Sandy Row

Sandy Row is an area near the center of Belfast far from Hyndford Street, but close to where the train from Dublin came in at the Great Northern Railway. Sandy Row is a Protestant enclave nearby. Sandy Row and Protestantism are synonymous.

The reference to "throwing pennies at the bridges down below" refers to a bridge in Drogheda on the Dublin-Belfast railway line where it was traditional in the 50's to throw pennies out of the train for luck.
