Cleveland was rock and roll! In my teen years, The Cleveland Press sponsored an event held annually at the Convention Center beneath Music Hall, called the Teen Fair. Each August, on four separate stages, bands and single artists would play in the cavernous concrete and metal structure, showing off the latest groups in style! One August in 1967, my friend Ron and I hitch-hiked (yeah, you could do it safely back then!) from Chardon to downtown Cleveland dressed in our most fab and cool clothes to be part of the in-crowd. That day, we saw a young guitarist, playing alone, his new hit record ...Van Morrison playing "Brown Eyed Girl." |
