1h30m; Highlights of the evening:, - Streets Of Arklow: (Van on guitar, Ned Edwards first on mouth harp, later also picking up the guitar) a very beautiful rendition of the song, a quiet version which left the audience breathless;, - Bring It On Home: soulful as it should be, brought back memories of It's too late to stop now ;, - Carrying A Torch: sung nicely, intense and full of warmth, the audience was breathless again;, - In The Afternoon: ending in quietness, all of the audience was quiet in admiration, no one shouting..., - Muleskinner Blues: a strong bluesy version with the guitar leading the song, Vredenburg is very small venue, where the audience almost can touch the musicians. Van was in a good mood, even said thanks a couple of times, interaction with the band went smoothly. Van gave the impression that much of the set was last minute decision making, since quite a few times the roadies had to bring the proper lyrics to the stage. Afer having been at more than 25 van concerts, to me, this was certainly a very pleasant one. Also because of the fact that quite a few songs were new to me in the live version and I had the opportunity to stand in the first row., By the way, the support act JW Roy (singer / songwriter) is a most sympathetic character gifted with a strong voice, who plays his own blues folk compositions in an impressive way. Those who don't know his music should give him a try! |
