This popped up on my memories this morning. Van jamming with The Jim Daly Blues Band at an after concert party for one of his gigs at The Kings Hall Belfast back in the day. Georgie Fame and the rest of the Van band joined us as well, a great night’s craic! A little note for guitar geeks. Pictured just behind me is Billy McAllen, Van’s great friend from The Monarchs Showband days, and very fine guitar player. Billy got up with us as well, he’s playing my Schecter guitar, but before I had it refinished in a seafoam green type colour which I still have and use regularly as one of my main gigging guitars. It’s a great instrument. Also, peeking over Van’s shoulder is maestro bass player Torry Megahey, my dear friend who played with me in the JD Band and also in a brilliant trio we had with ace drummer and singer Davy McKnight(another great lasting friendship for me),both founder members of the incomparable Freshmen Showband, and Davy going on to play with Clubsound right up to the present. A little bit of local musical history here perhaps for those mature enough to remember!
