Tribeca Film Festival Concert; less than 60 minutes; "The gate opens, American Express is very generous, they give me a flashlight, beach towel, 8 ounce bottle of water, bag and promotional material. The area infront of the stage is occupied, but we get good space behind the sound tower. 5 PM, Black Eye Peas come on. NOt bad for hip hop, but not my cup of tea. As equipment is exchanged, some bad poetry, but the Latina poet is quite easy on the eyes. She should learn to smile though. Macy Gray is OK, but she didn't sing any of her hits (at least none I am familiar with). I think she had an unfortunate run in with some substances. Van should hire her guitarist. Another poet. He wants to kill me because I'm over 50. I want to strangle him because he sucks. Steve Winwood. Mostly Traffic and one from Arc of the Diver and spencer Davis. Low Spark gives each band member an extended solo. Van should be so generous. Van should have such a talented band. Bobby DeNiro introduces Bono. He talks for about four hours, but doesn't say much. The Raging Bull introduces Van. (Sorry, I forgot Chris Tucker - I wish). Van. Comes out blowing sax on HITYL. Much better than inarticulate heart. Maybe it was the great outdoors, maybe the stellar sound system, but both Van and the Band were on. Maybe it was because they had to work their asses off to match Steve and his boys. Standard set list (thanks mac) but superior execution. Whining Boy is an even better choice for intro than HITYL. consider it free advice Van, start with a jump blues. The whole show was less than an hour, but worth every moment, not to say best bang for the buck for a Van show in years. So now rather than averaging $100 a show, this year, it is down to $70."-DJO |
